The Engineering Technologist – Water/Wastewater is a member of the Engineering Division within the Infrastructure Services Department, reporting directly to the Manager of Engineering. The Engineering Division oversees planning, design, and construction of the safe and reliable infrastructure Township residents need to go about their daily lives. Specifically, the Engineering Technologist – Water/Wastewater provides engineering review and technical support for the Township’s water, wastewater, and asset management programs. The position is also responsible for managing water and wastewater capital projects, coordinating between outside agencies to ensure project deliverables are achieved, arranging for and administering the installation and inspection of municipal services for site plan/infill developments, liaising with the development community and responding to development-related inquiries, preparing service finance agreements with development proponents, reviewing service connection requests, as well as reviewing the engineering submissions for subdivision applications ensuring compliance is maintained with all applicable water and wastewater design standards.

The successful candidate will also have a membership with OACETT as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or will be able to obtain this designation within 2 years, as well as tree years' work related experience with municipal stormwater and/or wastewater infrastructure and project management.

Infrastructure Services is seeking one (1) Water and Wastewater Operator, Class 1 or 2.

Reporting to the Plant Operations, Superintendent ensures the supervision and administration of the day-today operations of the water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plants, municipal wells, and water/wastewater pumping stations, reservoirs and CSO tanks within the City of Hamilton and maintains regulatory compliance. 

Reporting to Manager, Wastewater Operations and Maintenance in the City Utilities Division, your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: • Perform preventative maintenance and emergency response activities on both the wastewater collection and water distribution systems (Class 2 facilities) • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) guidelines, and maintain required documentation and record keeping • Participate in team development and implementation of operational/maintenance programs to meet divisional objectives and the needs of our customers and infrastructure • Participate in the on-duty rotation (after-hours) for Operator in Charge (OIC) responsibilities in accordance with applicable certifications • Provide functional and operational training as required
