Job Description

Reporting to the Supervisor of Water/Wastewater, the Water/Wastewater Operator will primarily be responsible for the operations, monitoring and maintenance of the Town’s municipal drinking water systems, small drinking water systems and wastewater collection systems to ensure the safe delivery of potable drinking water and reliable wastewater services to our community while ensuring regulatory compliance. This position performs a wide variety of maintenance and operational activities on these systems including, but not be limited to, water sampling, infrastructure inspections, water meter installation, reading and repair, maintenance and repair of water and sewer infrastructure, sanitary pump station maintenance and the collection and recording of operational data. This position investigates and responds to inquiries from the public, contractors, and utilities in a prompt and professional manner. In addition, operation and maintenance of tools and equipment including pumps, pipe locators, gas detectors, confined space, CCTV equipment, and heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loader, trench boxes. Candidates must possess a valid Class 1 Water Distribution Operator certificate and a Class 1 Wastewater Collection Operator certificate; with a preference for Class 2 Wastewater Collection certificate. The preferred candidate will also have three years related work experience and knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems operation, components, and maintenance. Civil Engineering Technology or Environmental Technology Diploma and eligible for Certified Engineering Technician (C.Tech or CET) designation from OACETT is an asset. DZ driver’s license with the ability to operate heavy equipment is an asset. You also bring strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively, professionally and courteously work with all levels of staff, external contacts and the general public; ability to work in a team environment, and possess a strong understanding of the legislative regulations. Must have the ability to work rotational on-call, evenings, weekends, and overtime as required. Rate of Pay: $85,438 - $100,514
