Temporary 12 Month Contract Opportunity for:
Technical Trainer & Project Coordinator

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Drinking Water, the Technical Trainer & Project
Coordinator leads the delivery and coordination of Water First’s drinking water and environmental
water technical programming. This role is responsible for independently planning, delivering, and
coordinating hands-on, project-based technical training, while supporting program growth,
refinement, and community-driven implementation.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Training & Instruction
● Lead and deliver water science training, including water and wastewater operations,
water chemistry, sample collection and testing, mapping/GIS, environmental monitoring,
and career development.
● Facilitate hands-on, project-based learning for participants with diverse backgrounds.
● Serve as lead or supporting instructor for technical workshops, mentoring interns and
providing guidance during field and classroom activities.
● Assist with exam coordination, online class management, posting tutorials, and
one-on-one tutoring of participants.
Project Coordination
● Develop, track, and adapt work plans and deliverables; monitor workshop budgets and
troubleshoot issues proactively.
● Coordinate daily project tasks and support program refinement, including updating
manuals and documentation.
● Manage equipment and purchasing as directed; assist with hiring for local coordinator
and intern roles.
● Contribute to reporting, operator reports, and workshop debriefs.
● Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth project delivery.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
● Support student recruitment, training, tutoring, and ongoing engagement in Indigenous
communities.
● Represent Water First in public events, presentations, and community outreach.
● Collaborate with the Communications Department to share program updates, successes,
and social media content.
● Participate in initiatives to raise organizational awareness and engage donors.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications:
● 3 years experience as a Water and/or wastewater operator certification (Minimum Class 1)
Candidates holding Drinking water certificates considered an asset
● Minimum of 2 years of technical field and/or workshop facilitation experience
● Related degree, diploma, or certification in one or more fields: drinking water or
wastewater treatment, water engineering, hydrology, water chemistry.
Skills:
● Knowledge of conventional water and wastewater treatment systems, including
equipment and maintenance
● Experience delivering classroom or virtual instruction, ideally with adult and Indigenous
learners
● Project coordination and management skills
● Experience with water sampling and quality analysis techniques
Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Classroom, etc.)
● Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 25% of the year
Understanding of Indigenous culture and experience building positive Indigenous
relations

● Water First’s standard operating hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm Eastern
