Maintenance Operator 3 – Instrumentation

The duties include:
• Operate and maintain the Region’s plants, stations, and the distribution systems
• Design, install, test, calibrate, maintain, and repair computer, electronic, pneumatic, and radio systems and components of process control, telemetry, and data acquisition systems
• Repair, calibrate, and maintain test equipment and analyzing equipment
• Write reports and maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used and associated costs
• Write computer programs for the operation of PLC process control and data acquisition systems, controllers and test equipment
• Research the availability, applicability, and performance of components; prepare job cost estimates and purchase parts and equipment as required
• Monitor and utilize SCADA to identify trends and troubleshoot process / operational problems; identify deficiencies and upgrade requirements
• Interact with other regional staff, consultants, external service providers and the public
• Review facility / process drawings and identify when revisions are required
• Inspect and test components installed by contractors
• Advice and effectively communicate with appropriate staff or contract engineers to specify or recommend equipment and designs for process control and data acquisition systems
• Work in various indoor and outdoor environments including confined spaces
• Perform standby duty and overtime with the ability to respond quickly is required as well as the ability to work on a rotating shift schedule

Applicants must have:
• A minimum of 14 years of formal education including a valid Certificate of Qualification (447A) Instrument and Control, or completion of a two-to-three year college diploma in an Instrumentation and Controls Technical Program (or related), or a Certification of Qualification as a Certified Construction and Maintenance Electrician (309A) with several years of experience in Instrumentation and Controls
• A Class 1 Wastewater Treatment Certificate
• Several years of experience in the design and improvement of new or existing electronic systems; operate and maintain electric testing, repair, and calibration equipment
• The ability to work with minimal supervision and make sound judgments regarding work methods and tools
• The ability to understand oral and written instructions as well as read and prepare wiring diagrams and blueprints
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to acknowledge and learn from mistakes in service delivery
• A valid Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s License

Candidates who possess an Operator-in-Training (OIT) Wastewater Treatment Certificate or are willing to register and
advance within the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) Water Operation Certification Program
may also apply, however, preference will be given to applicants with a Class 1 Wastewater Treatment Certificate.

– $49.47 per hour
