REPORTING TO: Water Distribution Foreperson
UNION AFILLIATION: Non-Union
WAGE RANGE: $34.81 –$43.52/hr ($72,404.80 – $ 90,521.60/Annually)
HOURS OF WORK: 40/Week

POSITION SUMMARY:
Works with a team to provide all customers with the delivery of safe potable water and the effective collection of wastewater in the municipal systems.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:
• Completion of secondary school education.
• Demonstrated experience working with water treatment, water distribution or wastewater collection operations and applicable legislation. Plumbing and/or construction experience is an asset.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Ability to demonstrate the required competencies for this position in alignment with Oxford County’s competency framework.
• Training and knowledge of safety equipment and practices, including WHMIS, confined space entry, health and safety, and traffic control.
• Valid Ontario Driver’s license required. DZ driver’s license considered an asset.
• MOE certification at the operator-in-training (OIT) Level in water distribution, water treatment and wastewater collection or ability to achieve certification within 6 months of date of hire.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions

  • WATER DISTRIBUTION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
    Inspection and commissioning of new water mains and service connections.
    Ensure water distribution water quality by performing flushing, sampling and analysis in response to customer enquiries.
    Ensure water delivered to customers is accurately metered and identifies and reports any potential cross connections.
    Completes locates and keeps detailed maps of the system.
    Organizes locates, permits, traffic control plans and contractors.
  • SHARED KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
    Inspects and maintains County water treatment facilities and distribution systems and wastewater collection systems and pump stations in accordance with provincial regulations and Industry and County standards.
    Perform repairs, installations, replacements and maintenance of water distribution/treatment and wastewater collection pump stations and infrastructure included but not limited to: valves, water meters, sanitary force mains, grinder pumps, Water Treatment specific:
    Disinfection equipment, water pipes, pumps, instrumentation, sanitary pumps and wet-wells. Water Distribution specific:
    Water shutoffs, fire hydrants, water main tapping, water mains, sanitary levels, gravity sanitary mains, maintenance holes and septic tanks
    Participates in on-call duties including weekends and holidays and responds to customer, water and wastewater plant emergencies. Perform emergency work in a quick, safe manner to keep water in compliance and customers in service. Outside of regular business hours, reports adverse water quality incidents and spills to the Health Unit, Emergency Services and to the Spill Action Center.
    Completes required forms, documentation and records in accordance with provincial regulation and County’s Drinking Water Quality Management System.
    Reports DWQMS non-conformances to superiors and implements corrective action as directed.
    Assists with on the job training to junior or new operators. Oversees contractors working in various water/wastewater plants and systems.
    Enforces by-laws for water and sewer use.
    Communicate all matters on a daily basis to the Supervisor and must maintain accurate records of operations and maintenance in compliance with industry.
    Performs other duties as assigned.
