The Municipality of West Perth is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Environmental Services Operator. Reporting to the Environmental Services Lead Operator, the Environmental Services Operator is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the water supply and distribution system, as well as the wastewater treatment and collection system. This position involves developing, implementing, and executing work plans that ensure the water and wastewater utility operates safely, effectively, and efficiently. Additionally, the Operator oversees and implements the stormwater management programs.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for monitoring and performing maintenance on all infrastructures related to the operation of the
Municipality’s water and wastewater systems.
• Participate in emergency repairs to any parts of the systems.
• Responsible for the safe and effective use of equipment and tools.
• Provide timely and correct underground locates to the public in regards to water and wastewater
infrastructure.
• Perform regular maintenance activities on all aspects of the systems as per the Municipality’s maintenance
schedules and goals to ensure proper operation.
• Collect data and water samples for testing, in accordance with approved procedures and regulations; and
reviewing SCADA data.
• Carry out work assignments using a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment, plus hand and power tools.
• Recommend changes to the QMS.
• Discuss plans, priorities and work schedules with Environmental Services Lead Operator.
• Follow health and safety practices in accordance with established procedures.
• Obtain training as required by Municipal policy or provincial regulations.
• Work overtime and flexible work hours if required.
• Provide on-call service duty as required.
• Maintain equipment, vehicles and tools in safe operating condition.
• Provide proper records regarding the Municipality’s water meter program and perform monthly meter
reading when required.
• Maintain utility maps in an updated and clear manner.
• Required to keep a daily log of activities.
• Perform duties as may be assigned by the Environmental Services Lead Operator, or as required by law.
Qualifications
• Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent education
• Valid MECP Water Distribution and Supply OIT Certificate or higher
• Valid MECP Wastewater Treatment and Collection OIT License or higher
• Walkerton Clean Water Centre Entry-Level Course for Drinking Water Operators or the ability to obtain
• 3 years of experience in a related field
• Current valid Class G driver’s license
